South Bend edevelcpment commission <br />legular Mee ing - March 9, 1990 <br />The staf <br />f has been working toward acquisition <br />of the Palais <br />Royale and that should take <br />place within <br />a ale of months. The Mayor <br />is appointing <br />a Task Force to work on the <br />development <br />of an organizational structure <br />for property <br />management and he is putting <br />that Task <br />Force together. The project has a <br />cost of <br />$4.8 million, including the cost of <br />acquiring <br />the Palais Royale, which should be <br />within the <br />means of this community to fund. <br />Mrs. Kb ata noted that most of the $4.8 <br />million ill come from private sources. <br />Mr. Nimtz stated that Mr. Pierotti's <br />feasibility study of an Entertainment <br />District and his visit here to begin working <br />toward that end has sparked renewed interest <br />in the downtown. His vision of the Palais <br />Royale the State Theatre as uripolished <br />gems inspired others to reconsider them. <br />Mr. Piasecki asked if the Palais/Morris Civic <br />restoration is phase one, what would be phase <br />two. Mr. Pierotti responded that this is <br />phase one. Whether there will be a phase two <br />and what phase two will be is something to <br />considerl at a later time. <br />Mr. NimTtz asked Mr. Wolf how he felt about <br />the termination of lease for the parking <br />parcels. Mr. Wolf stated that he regards <br />that as a positive step.
