Derrickson <br />ing property located at 310 W. <br />Street. <br />Mr. Hunt read into the record the letter <br />frdm Mr. Derrickson: <br />April 20, 1987 <br />Mr. Jon Hunt, Executive Director <br />of Redevelopment of South Bend <br />227 West Jefferson Street <br />So th Bend, IN 46601 <br />Dealr Mr. Hunt: <br />We the concerned citizens wish to <br />preserve the original Olivet A.M.E. <br />Church. Enclosed is a petition and brief <br />history of the church for your <br />information and consideration. <br />We believe that to retain this edifice <br />for worship services will be pleasing to <br />God our Father, and the preserving of the <br />church will also mean that a piece of the <br />history of the city of South Bend, IN, <br />will not be lost. We are asking for your <br />co sideration and assistance in this <br />matter. <br />Sincerely, <br />Rev. R.H. Derrickson, Pastor <br />The letter included the following <br />enclosures: a copy of their petition <br />cover letter, a copy of the Historic <br />Preservation Commission's comments and <br />notes on the structure, and several <br />signed petitions. <br />The Olivet A.M.E. church is located just <br />outside the baseball stadium area. Mr. <br />Derrickson is working with South Bend <br />Heritage to find possible sites to move <br />the church. The staff will contact Mr. <br />Derrickson to see what help it can <br />provide. Mr. Hunt stated that the <br />Commission had no intention of tearing <br />the building down. <br />-3- <br />COMMISSION ACKNOWLEDGED THE RECEIPT <br />OF THE LETTER FROM REV.
