South Bend edevelopment Conn-Lission
Regular Mee ing - November 9, 1984
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. UontLnued...
Mr. Punt noted for the record that Easter
Willams, 918 W. Oak, had submitted a check
for 90.00 over the $1,500 Emergency Repair
limi .
Upon a motion made by Mr. Donoho, seconded by
Mr. Donaldson and unanimously carried, the
CommLssion approved proposals and grants in
connection with the Emergency Repair Program
as listed above.
b. Co ssion approval requested for a proposal
and rant in connection with the Urban
Homesteading Program in accordance with the
recormiendation from the Bureau of Housing.
Name Contractor
Daviq Craig Hanks Enterprize
822 . Milton
Ms. Holston noted that this item was added to
the on-mission agenda. Ms. Holston explained
that this was an Urban Homestead where a tree
had fallen on the home. The Bureau received
three proposals for repairing the damage to
the house. The Bureau accepted the lowest bid
and negotiated with the insurance company over
the settlement. The insurance company stated
they vvould pay only for damage directly caused
by the tree, not repairs relating to code
violations as required by Neighborhood Code
Enfor ement. Originally the insurance
settl nt was for $1,132.00, however, all of
the w rk could not be done for that amount.
The Bureau, contractor and insurance company
renegotiated and the insurance company then
agreal to pay an additional $228.21 so that
the contractor could do the work.
Neig rhood Code Enforcement waived the code
requirement to reroof the entire house and not
just the damaged area. The source of funds is
the i surance settlement and payment will be
passel through the Bureau of Housing to the
-3-
COMMISSION APPROVED PROPOSALS
AND GRANTS IN CONNECTION
WITH THE EMERGENCY REPAIR
PROGRAM AS LISTED ABOVE
IM
$1,360.00
