South Side Development Area <br /> (1) continued... <br /> A final concern about Alternate C is that by <br /> selecting this option, new survey and design <br /> work will be required and that will add extra <br /> time and expense as compared to using the <br /> Alternate A alignment which is already <br /> designed and within a month of being ready <br /> to bid. It is projected that the design timeline <br /> for Alternate C could add six months to the <br /> project and between $300,000 and $335,000 <br /> to the project. <br /> Mr. Schalliol noted that the staff surveyed by <br /> e-mail and telephone the 33 property owners <br /> who would be acquired under Alternative A. <br /> The survey was sent out approximately 24 <br /> hours before this meeting. 23 responses were <br /> received, seventeen of which supported <br /> Alternate A; Five did not. <br /> FINAL RECOMMENDATION <br /> After much review, discussion, and <br /> reconsideration, the staff recommends <br /> Alternate A as the most appropriate <br /> alternative for addressing the expected <br /> increased traffic flow. Staff will work <br /> diligently to get professional service <br /> proposals prepared and presented to the <br /> Commission and Board of Works at their <br /> next scheduled meeting so that we can begin <br /> the acquisition appraisal process and begin <br /> developing relocation packages. Also, staff <br /> will continue to review ways to add traffic <br /> calming measures or design elements into the <br /> roadway to minimize the impact of the <br /> roadway and increase pedestrian and <br /> vehicular safety.
