look at ways to better reach out to the community. There is a community engagement director in <br /> the student government that is looking at different partnerships. He announced that he is the lead <br /> intern for the American Democracy Project and they are doing all the debates for the Mayor and <br /> Council races for South Bend, Elkhart and Mishawaka. <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND UPDATES/CONCERNS: <br /> Councilmember Jo M. Broden introduced herself and announced her work with Harter Heights. <br /> There was a plan revealed in July for some traffic calming measures parking issue solutions. <br /> Some of it is in the design phase but some is in the implementation phase. By the end of the year, <br /> quite a few items will have been checked off. There are approximately fourteen (14) items that <br /> had risen as issues needing to be solved. She claimed that by the end of the year, about half of <br /> them should be completed. She then mentioned a meeting she had attended earlier in the week to <br /> have residents interface with the beat officers that patrol the area south of Perley School. The <br /> aim of that meeting was to build relationships, share information and connect the residents to the <br /> ongoing groups that already meet in the area, as well as some City resources. Summary letters of <br /> that meeting are available with Councilmember Jo M. Broden. She then announced the <br /> introduction of an ordinance for the City of South Bend's Climate Action Plan. Additionally, out <br /> of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, there are meetings to try and bring about the opportunity <br /> to become a Trauma-Informed City. That would be cross-sector collaboration such as health- <br /> care, the judicial system, the schools and local government. She then also mentioned the Zoning <br /> Chapter reform and gave kudos to the individuals that have worked on that. Lastly, she <br /> announced a Neighborhood Summit to be had on October 19th. It is free and with partners from <br /> IUSB. That serves to be an opportunity to connect with not only the neighborhood, but the City <br /> of South Bend. <br /> Madi Rogers introduced herself. She is an enFocus Fellow working in the City of South Bend's <br /> Department of Innovation and Technology. She is also working on a project at Holy Cross. <br /> Adam DeBeck asked Ms. Rogers to come. <br /> Marlaina Johns introduced herself. She is Interim Director for the City of South Bend's <br /> Department of Code Enforcement. The Rental Safety Verification Program has been going well <br /> but they are working on getting the information more easily accessible on the website. The <br /> overall goal is for one (1) day to become a live real-time map of all the rentals. Right now, the <br /> list is updated weekly. <br /> Sienna Hurley introduced herself. She is the Project Manager for the Mayor's Office and her <br /> attendance was for information absorbing and dissemination. <br /> Councilmember Gavin Ferlic introduced himself. He announced his work in the area just south <br /> of Notre Dame for Residential Parking restrictions. It becomes quite hectic with Notre Dame <br /> home games. Petitions are circulating.
