The Historic Preservation Commission last Mon-
day evening took official action to forward a similar re-
quest to stay the demolition, and forwarded to the City
Council the I.O.O.F. Building landmark designation, and
supported the nomination of the building for the National
Registe of Historic Places, an issue to be before the
State Historic Review Board early in 1982; and,
3. Judge Hosinski in action yesterday afternoon
set the hearing date in Superior Court for January 8, 1982;
I request that the Redevelopment Commission take immediate
action to withdraw its instructions, the notice to proceed,
to the demolition contractor and that the building be
secured
Enclosec also for your information and use is a letter I
receivec yesterday from U. William Walter of TRISCO SYSTEM,
INC. T is reiterates previous information relative to the
terra c tta facade questions. The necessary restoration
task cai be successfully undertaken in 1982 and even with
the 12-15% escalation due to the delay by the premature
move to demolition the cost is under that of the cost.of
demolition of the building. Note also that an interim
task which can be undertaken immediately, full north and
west facade inspection, removal of loose terra cotta and
bracing has a cost of only $7500 - $8500.
To assi t in assuring public safety I also request that the
Redevel pment Commission arrange with TRISCO to accomplish
this as soon as possible.
Thanks
your help.
Sincerely,
S/
Donald E. Sporleder, AIA
The fol owing letter was also received from Lewis A.
McGann; President.of the Common Council.
4
COMMUNICATION FROM DONALD
E.
