Mrs. Brown: We were told that the homeowners were not allowed to choose their contractors, they had to take whoever Redevelopment assigned. In fact, there was one particular case on Brookfield Street that this girl did not want a certain contractor in her house, but he was made to do the work against her wishes. f•"Ir . lCi ra : Who told you that? Mrs.l Brown: The homeonwer herself. Mr. Brown: Also last year, the reason HUD got into a lot of trouble, we had a house on Studebaker, they had two or three contractors in there who they sent out. They had one of your inspectors who was recom- mending certain contractors for particular jobs. I won't state his name. Ile was recommended for this job on Studebaker Street, he did a bad job, plus he never finished. We were told that all the houses would not go to a particular contractor, they would have to be bid on. There are some houses being issued out to the contractors right out there at the Bureau and I am not getting in on them, this I know. Mrs. Baumgartner: No contracts are signed or awarded without them coming to the Redevelopment Commission. And I really feel if you felt that this was going on at the Bureau of Housing, I would have appreciated it if you had mentioned it because certainly if I am not aware of something there is nothing I can do to rectify it.
