NEW BUSIINESS <br />c. contlinued... <br />Mr.lNimtz: The Chair recognizes Mrs. Brown. <br />Mrs. Brown: We were told that the homeowners were <br />not allowed to choose their contractors, they had <br />to take whoever Redevelopment assigned. In fact, <br />there was one particular case on Brookfield Street <br />that this girl did not want a certain contractor <br />in her house, but he was made to do the work against <br />her wishes. <br />f•"Ir . lCi ra : Who told you that? <br />Mrs.l Brown: The homeonwer herself. <br />Mr. Brown: Also last year, the reason HUD got into <br />a lot of trouble, we had a house on Studebaker, they <br />had two or three contractors in there who they sent <br />out. They had one of your inspectors who was recom- <br />mending certain contractors for particular jobs. I <br />won't state his name. Ile was recommended for this <br />job on Studebaker Street, he did a bad job, plus he <br />never finished. We were told that all the houses <br />would not go to a particular contractor, they would <br />have to be bid on. There are some houses being <br />issued out to the contractors right out there at the <br />Bureau and I am not getting in on them, this I know. <br />Mrs. Baumgartner: No contracts are signed or awarded <br />without them coming to the Redevelopment Commission. <br />And I really feel if you felt that this was going on <br />at the Bureau of Housing, I would have appreciated <br />it if you had mentioned it because certainly if I am <br />not aware of something there is nothing I can do to <br />rectify it. <br />Mr. McMahon: First, Mr. Brown, I hope you understand <br />we do have a couple of different types of programs <br />tha go on here. <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />don' <br />bidd <br />and <br />of t <br />sue <br />rown: Yes, I know. <br />cMahon: When we give someone a grant and they <br />have to pay it back, then we go through a formal <br />ng process here where we advertise in the paper <br />he whole thing.
