South Bend edevelopment Commission
Regular Mee ing - March 7, 1980
7. PROCRES$ REPORTS
a. OddlFellows Building (continued)
Ms. Derbeck: I got the impression, from
the story in the paper last night about
thi , that the proposal is complete.
Mr. Nimtz: No, the proposal is not complete.
The detailed drawings and other plans are
roughed out, but not fully complete. We
have received $10.00 for the booklet, etc.
but that is not in the hands of the Commission
yet This was a general discussion between
the Mayor and Mr. Ellison.
Ms. Derbeck: With the other proposals we
knew who they were, but there is so much
secrecy about this one, why?
Mr. Ellison: Ms. Derbeck there is no intent
to be secretive. I believe the story in the
newspaper indicated that this whole proposal
came about as a result of a party coming into
town two or three weeks ago. You have to
bear in mind that with the other proposals
we advertised for bids and allowed for a
substantial period of time before proposals
had to be submitted. We are in an awkward
position now in that if we were to say every-
thing we know about the proposal it may not
appear to be competitive because we don't have
all the details that the other proposals had
whert they were presented publicly. So, in
fairness to the developer, and to try to avoid
additional confusion to the public, it makes
more sense on our part to acknowledge that there
is indeed another proposal, and that there is a
need for additional details before we can describe
it more fully.
Ms.Derbeck: When do you think you will be able
to announce this?
Mr. Ellison: I believe sometime soon, perhaps in
a w ek or two. Mayor Parent indicated that he
hop id to have a decision in thirty (30) days.
Mrs.1 Allen: Would that come before the next meeting?
Mr.
Nimtz: It could.
sea
