South Bend edevelopment Commission
Regular Mee ing March 7, 1980
7. PROGRESS REPORTS (continued)
Mr. Ellison: That is correct.
Ms. A u b rn: Is Mr. Horton still working with some
of the usinesses downtown that are going to relocate
to help them find space?
Mr. Ellison: That is correct. We are aware
of others that have lease agreements or tentative
arrangements, and we know of others who do not
have ar angements. In any event, we would
likely wind up with some properties that will
be vac at which we will have to manage, and
others at won't be for a period of time.
Ms. Auburn: My concern is that we try to make
the trarisition at least disruptive as we can to
the businesses that are located down there and
really work with them so that there is some kind
of continuity and that changing our time lines
do not interfere with their business planning,
their i ventory build up that they take on for
particular seasons every year, and that we not
interfere with them.
Mr. Ellison: That is part of the reason for
the ext nsion through: January of next year. It
clearly says now that you may buy for Christmas.
It allows places that do not have an alternative
location more time and flexibility with respect
to pinning that down. It also gives us more
time fr a staff perspective in trying to
determi e what might be available in the down-
town ar aa.
Ms. Aubrn: I just didn't want to see businesses
close d wn and relocate out of town.
Mr. Nim z: Ms. Auburn, I agree with you and I
believe the rest of the Commissioners agree
with you. This is one of the things which resulted
when the change of administration occurred,
Mr. Ci* Those that have to be out by January 30,
they w#1 be re- notified thereafter?
-13_
