South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Me ting — October 3, 1980
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Mrs. Kolata continues...
We plan to acquire a lot on the corner
of Colfax and Niles which was a Redbird
Station that has been vacant for some
time as we need that lot for some pedestrian
pathways for the Park Department. The
of er acquisition we are going to make is
a building owned by Standard Mechanical
Corporation which is suitable for a main
to ance building for the Park Department.
It is our intention that the building be
leised to the Park Department.
Th t is the property we intend to acquire in
th's initial phase.
Mr. Nimtz: I might say at this juncture that
the Commission is very familiar with this
situation. I had several discussions about
two years ago with Mayor Nemeth, and I think
Mayor Parent has taken the priority that the
East Bank will have priority over the Monroe-
Sample area. Any questions by the press
or public?
Ms Derbeck: In addition to the three major
pa eels that are to be acquired, are there
pl ces where there are some buildings also?
Mr 3. Kolata: No. They are what are called
partial takes. We are acquiring a portion of
th lot but there is no other building which
is being acquired. Our acquisition may go
ri ht up to the building line of several of
the properties, but it does not include any
buildings.
Mr. McMahon: It basically reflects the balance
of those lots which we need to acquire in order
to secure the East Race property itself. There
are set property lines that follow the raceway
as the park department has designated.
Ms. Derbeck: Are there residential properties
in olved?
:
