The location of bus shelters is not exactly the Department of Redevelopment's responsibility, but we would like to see that type of activity take place, because we feel it would be a benefit to the type of residential community that will be there. Another thing we call for in the plan is the ev ntual dedication of an easement along the Ea t Bank of the river so that a continuous pe estrian pathway can be built in the future. We don't have a projection date on th t but it is something we would like to se in the future to further the -De estrian orientation of the area. The plan calls for the establishment of a design review committee. The East Bank Design Review Committee would consist of five people, the Executive Director of the Dept. of Redevelopment, (Chairman), the City Engineer, the Director of the St. Joseph County Area Plan Commission, the City Building Commissioner and one member to be appointed by the Redevelopment Conmission. Primarily their purpose will be to look at the plans as they are submitted by developers, and review them to see how they correspond to a set of design guidelines, which have not yet beEn totally established. The Design Guidelines will be adopted by the Redevelopment Commission and developers will be able to get a copy of the Guide- lines so that they will be aware of what we ar looking for in terms of construction and design. It will be necessary to have the Design Review Committee approve plans and send them on the Redevelopment Commission for their confirmation before a proposal wi 1 be approved. As far as land acquisition, the map on the wall has the area we are acquiring shaded in blue. Primarily, we are acquiring the East Race and three additional parcels. TM first one, the South Bend Screw property, is on the acquisition list because it is one of the keys to development of the area and is in a prime location. 7
