Redevelopm nt Commission_ Regular Meeting
September 5, 1978
7. PROGRESS REPORTS
Mr. Ellison at this time introduced the new staff members of
the Redevelopment Department. Mr. Timothy K. Eckerle, as Assistant
Director, Ms. Jan Peterson, is our Real Estate Officer, and
Mr. Kevin Horton, is our new planner.
Mr. WiOgins: It is very nice to have you with us.
Mr. Ellison: Of course there are some things happening downtown,
as you may know. The Common Council has authorized the Mayor
to enter into a contract with Gerald D. Hines of Houston, to
pull the project together within the next six months. So it
looks like the "hole" is off and running. There may be some
expect tion that something may happen with Century Mall as we
go alo g.
Mr. Wiggins: Do we have any report on the progress of our
litiga ion?
Mr. Butler: No, I don't. Mr. Brownell, have you talked with
Mr. Ch Dleau?
Mr. Brownell: No.
Mr. Ellison: I haven't talked with him either.
Ms. Je nne Derbeck: You mentioned that there is some expectation
that t ere will be progress on Century Mall.
Mr. Ellison: Well, I would say optimistically, as we have been saying
for some time, that we will be able to proceed with the project.
Obviously, we have been able to make progress with [IUD to clear the
barriers, to the execution of the project, and I sincerely believe
I would express the Commission's belief in saying that we feel progress
will continue to happen. We certainly hope it will.
Ms. Derjbeck: How soon do you expect this project?
Mr. Ellison: Ms. Derbeck, in this business you never know exactly
what your time table will be. I just think that we are certainly
encouraged by the fact that HUD is obviously confident that we can
proceed inasmuch as that all the barriers to making the money available
have been eradicated. The historic problems we had at one time have
been solved. So, we have made some progress. It is our belief that the
momentum will continue downtown with respect to that project and the
others. To put it into a more precise timetable I think it would not
make a lot of sense.
INTRODUCTION
OF NEW STAFF
MEMBERS TO
REDEVELOP-
MENT DEPT.
PROGRESS CON-
TINUES IN THE
"HOLE"
PROJECT
DISCUSSION
ON HOPEFUL
PROGRESS OF
CENTURY MALL
