4. CORRESPONDENCE <br />a. HUD Regional Office letter dated August 2, 1976: This letter is REQUISITION <br />from Mr. Richard A. Kaiser, Assistant Regional Administrator for NO. 10 <br />Community Development, advising Requisition No. 10 for Project APPROVED, <br />Capital Grant Progress Payment, Contract No. Indiana R- 66(LG), PROJECT <br />has been approved in the amount of $2,500,000. The approved CAPITAL <br />amount represents payment of Urgent Needs Funds as approved in GRANT <br />our Loan and Grant Contract. PROGRESS <br />PAYMENT, <br />The check, drawn on the Treasurer of the United States, will be R -66 <br />mailed directly to the depository designated and authorized by <br />our Agency, and is to be recorded as a receipt in the Project <br />Temporary Loan Repayment Fund. <br />Mr. C. Wayne Brownell, Executive Director, Department of Re- <br />development, advised this check has been received and we have <br />purchased Treasury Bills with it. <br />President Nimtz added, "The Chair might say, as he has said be- <br />fore, this was the combined effort of many, many people on this, <br />including the former Mayor Jerry J. Miller and the present Mayor <br />Peter J. Nemeth; the late Dr. Oliver C. Carmichael had a great <br />deal to do with this; Don Newman, the Indiana Liaison Officer in <br />Washington; Congressman Brademas; and many, many others. This <br />is a combined effort and a successful one. We now have the <br />money." <br />b. HUD Area Office letter dated August 2, 1976: This letter is CLOSE -OUT <br />from Mr. Stephen J. Havens, Director, Community Planning and DATE OF <br />Development Division, advising in accordance with our telephone R -66 EX- <br />conversation with Jeanne Meggs of his staff concerning the re TENDED TO <br />financing of Project Indiana R -66, the close -out date has been 3 -25 -77 <br />extended to March 25, 1977. <br />C. HUD Area Office letter dated August 11, 1976:- This letter is PROJECT <br />from Mr. Stephen J. Havens, Director, Community Planning and CLOSE -OUT <br />Development Division, confirming agreements reached during our R -57 <br />recent discussion of close -out of the LaSalle Urban Renewal <br />Project, Indiana R -57, on or before December 31, 1976. <br />The activities that remain to be completed and the indicated <br />actions were listed for acquisition parcels, condemnation <br />actions, disposition, final audit to be scheduled for the <br />Project, and the estimated costs to project completion were <br />requested. <br />Prompt close -out of this project is critical to continued favor- <br />able consideration of proposed expansion of Project Indiana R -66. <br />Mr. Brownell advised that we are currently negotiating to acquire <br />the parcels remaining on the acquisition list. The letters have <br />been mailed, via certified mail with return receipt requested, <br />to the people on the disposition parcels giving them 15 days to <br />get in touch with us. We have sent requests to three (3) national <br />audit firms for a quotation on a final audit. On the financial <br />status of the Project, the form is currently being filled out. <br />- 3 - <br />
