a
BUSINESS (Cont'd
Sheet Metal & Heating Company, Mr. Crighton advised Barany sub -
contracts the electrical work, but does do his own plumbing and
heating. Some of the contractors who own their firms actually
do some of the work personally. Barany does not. He is a
business manager; he has his own carpentry crew, own plumbing
and heating crews; but he does subcontract the electrical work.
The general contractor can have his own work crew, or he can just
serve as a business manager and subcontract out to regular firms
to work with him, and he handles the paper work for the subcon-
tractors.
Mr. Caesar further asked, "Is it permitted for Redevelopment
to subcontract work out itself and eliminate the middleman ?"
Mr. Crighton advised, "No. You cannot do that in the State of
Indiana." The Chair further stated, "Of course, as I view the
construction industry, Lloyd, [Commissioner Robinson], you are
probably more close than anybody to this thing. This is happen-
ing over the country whereby large or certain contractors are
just really managers and they put the project together and all
they do is supervise them; they actually have no work crew of
their own. The only employees they have is just supervisors or
engineers or accountants, so actually they have no laborers other
than supervisors and they merely manage the project. Isn't that
right, Lloyd ?" Response by Commissioner Robinson was, "Yes."
Commissioner Wiggins added, "Well, management is worth something.
This is not to say that they do nothing for their money. If you
nave had anything built, you appreciate a general contractor that
Mould keep everybody moving and get the job done."
7. PROGRESS REPORTS PROGRESS
REPORTS
None.
8. NEXTICOMMISSION MEETING
The
hair advised this item
was discussed at the last Commission
NEXT
meeting
and that a decision
was to be made at this meeting for a
COMMISSION
date
change. The next regularly - scheduled Commission meeting would
MEETING:
be oi
Friday, July 2, which
is a City holiday.
7 -1 -76
The
Jate was discussed with
unanimous acceptance that the next
Commission
meeting be scheduled for Thursday, July 1, 1976, at
10:0
) a.m., which will be a
Special Meeting held in lieu of the
Regular
Meeting of July 2,
1976. The meeting will be held in the
Offi
e of the Department of
Redevelopment.
Moti
n was duly made by Mr.
Wiggins, seconded by Mr. Donaldson and
carried.
9.
