4.
c.
M
ICATIONS (Cont'd
Mr. Dan Caesar, WSBT -TV Reporter, asked various questions:
What was the original.. cost? Reason for the amendment? Was
this a routine audit? A routine audit required by HUD? Mr.
Brownell advised the reason for the amendment is that the firm
audited our records through November 30, 1975, and HUD requested
the audit be through the balance of the year, which was the
month of December, 1975, and that was the amendment. The original
audit contract was $1,810 and the amended total was $1,928.00.
Commissioner Wiggins added this was a routine and required audit
by HUD. It was strictly on a unit cost basis on which they were
the low bidders. This firm was composed of people who formerly
worked for the Government and did Government auditing. They
learned the procedure that way and went into business for them-
selves. Because they know this type of auditing and the books
so well, they were able to underbid many of the others and they
do a very good job.
HUD Area Office letter dated January 23, 1976: This letter, PROCLAIMER
over the signature of Mr. Stephen J. Mr. Brownell advised this involves a lawsuit in which
we are being sued for damages in connection with the Columbia
Warehouse fire.
- 4 -
LOU -ANN
COUNTRY
MART
LITIGATION,
R -66
