7. PROGRESS REPORTS
a River Bend Plaza Report, R -66: Mr. Louis N. Wilcox, RIVER BEND
Director of the River Bend Plaza, distributed the River PLAZA REPORT,
Bend Plaza activity schedule for the period from April 5 R -66
through August 8, 1975, which he advised are confirmed
activities on the Plaza. He said he has had discussions
with numerous other groups in the community and this will
be elaborated on in the future.
Mr. Wilcox invited the Commissioners and anyone inter -
ested to stop in at the Plaza Office and view the samples
of additional seating they have on display which will be
under consideration for the unfinished portions of the
Plaza. They have; two different alternatives.
Mr. John R. Kagel, Executive Director, Downtown South Bend
Council, advised they have several very constructive sug-
gestions on the seating and was deferring the floor to
Mr. Edward F. Soltesz, Chairman, Governmental Coordination
Committee of the River Bend Plaza Advisory Committee, as he
is more of an expert in this field. Mr. Soltesz said the
gentlemen were at the Advisory Board Meeting and showed
them the furniture being considered for the Plaza. They
were discussing the longevity of the pieces. He said the
furniture is of good solid design. The only thing he ob-
jected to is the laminates, and he suggested to have some
bolts placed that would go down through to hold the laminates
together, to make the furniture as indestructible as it can
possible be. Mr. Soltesz said they took it under advisement
and will take the information back to the engineers. Mr.
Wilcox advised some of the existing furniture has only been
in use for approximately one year and is not holding up be-
cause it was not constructed as Mr. Soltesz is recommending.
Mr. Phil Simonds, our consulting design engineer with Environ-
mental Planning, has been requested to mark on the over -all
plan where he would suggest the seating be placed to be in
accord with the design plan.
Staff Reports
1) Acquisition Status Report: Mr. William J.
