On m tion by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Mr. Chenney and carried, the abovo letters were to be received and placed on file. 5. OLD BUSINESS a. olfax /Pier Park Dredging and Rip-Rap Contract: Mr. C. Wayne rownell advised Mr. John Fisher, with Lawson Associates, onsulting Engineers, will give an update of the material on olfax /Pier Park Dredging and Rip -Rap Contract. These docu- ents were prepared by Lawson Associates and the matter was iscussed at prior meetings, but there has been some modifi- ation since that time and we are requesting Commissioners' pproval. r. Fisher advised the plans and specifications have been ompleted and submitted to three different bodies now for approval which is necessary: 1) Department of Public orks, City of South Bend, 2) For miscellaneous permit or work on State Highway Right -of -Way from the Indiana tate Highway Commission, and 3) Department of Natural esources. The Department of Natural Resources was more ut of courtesy Mr. Fisher advised, as they already had permit, but wanted the understanding of the work for the uture. The only problem hanging in this construction is lhe State Highway Commission, and they anticipate it will ake approximately 30 -days for a permit. The bridge is ery old; the documents on the existing bridge are not the est, and Mr. Fisher said he has spent some time and supplied 'nformation to bring it up to date. The only matter this orning is to sign the cover sheet. Ir. Brownell advised it has been approved before (re Com- iission meetings 9 -6 -74 and 10- 4 -74), but they wanted to ring it.up and approve it again for the slight changes. ommissioner Wiggins asked what some of the changes are, nd Mr. Fisher said they realigned some of the proposed ,redging. The old pier dates back to about 1904. The new ier was put in recently- -the last three or four years as he �ecalled. The configuration of the dredging is shown by the uter line and everything in that line is taken out down to levation 663 and then to the cross - hatched area and either ,ip- rapping or putting in revet mattresses which are similar .o gabions (wire baskets filled with rocks for protection f the piers for some of the alignments.) They have made an nvestigation of the condition of Pier No. 6. They have dug ut drawings from the State Highway Commission files dated 7- COLFAX /PIER PARK DREDGING & RIP -RAP CONTRACT, R -66
