10.
ESS REPORTS (Cont'd)
4) Plaza Maintenance: Mr. Wiggins suggested the real RIVER BEND
element of housekeeping is to have a person assigned PLAZA MAINTE-
specifically to supervise and be responsible for the NANCE AND
clean -up and maintenance -- everyone's job is no one's CLEAN -UP
job really. This would create a personal pride on
how the area looks. Mr. Wiggins advised that he
would like to recommend to the Board of Public Works
to have definite people assigned for this responsi-
bility- -not only the person in charge - -have a
staff in tact -and keep that staff, if possible.
Mr. Bill Slabaugh advised we now have an agreement
with the Department of Public Works, and now have
an engineer and one inspector and are setting up a
permanent group of people, under the Emergency
Employment Act (federal funds), for two full -time
employees; by November 1, we intend to have six
(he believes), for two years, under his supervi-
sion. Bill Slabaugh said he works for engineer-
ing and the Board of Works and in the field with
the heavy equipment. The necessary equipment
the Commission has supplied for the Plaza clean -
up and maintenance will be on -going and permanent
- -at least for three years - -or until we find other
ways to pay for this with other funds.
Commissioner Wade told Mr. Slabaugh that he will
be complimentary as well as critical, and will be
looking forward to dealing with him.
President Nimtz stated that we need to have people
who are knowledgeable when there is a problem to
know what to do -- pushing a release button caused
the problem on the pool.
5) Avon Theatre Update: The owners have made a re- AVON THEATRE
quest to Mr. Karl King with Economic Development UPDATE
Commission. The rennovation -will be very favorable
and we will be very proud of it.
Southeast Side Housing Project, Indiana E -7: Mr. Lennon SOUTHEAST SIDE
advised this item was previously discussed, under "Old HOUSING PROJECT,
Business ", 8a, and a public meeting was authorized by E -7
the Commission to be held at the next Commission meeting,
on September 20.
Neighborhood Development Program; Indiana Project A -10: N.D.P. A -10
This item was also discussed in detail, under Communi-
cations, 7k," and a discussion on the burned out houses.
The last to be relocated was on September 3, 1974.
- 21 -
