2.
tESENTATIONS TO HONOR OUTGOING PRESIDENT;'FRED J. HELMEN (Cont'd
I am going to watch the progress made downtown and only wish
I could serve long enough to see the Associates complex
developed, and when you asked me last week what I thought
paramount on the next phase, I said that the Green Belt- -
being an outdoor man and loving the river and trees and the
people - -I think the development of the Green Belt will be
tremendous'
Mr. Lennon advised that we also have some cake and coffee when the
meeting is over - -a large cake beautifully decorated with the River
Bend Plaza logo and coloring, and on the left side of the cake,
he following:
Feed - --
You'tce the acting on ou% cafe.'
BEST GASHES
ESIDENT FRED J. HELMEN:
You are as much of a success as I am, and without your
help and cooperation, we would not have been successful
as it is. I am amazed that this tribute has been made.
It is beautiful and I will find a place to display this.
Thank you and our guests who attend regularly. I am grate-
ful for everything. As I said once before and announced,
"It's been fun - -if it hadn't been fun, I wouldn't have
served as long as I have. Eight (8) projects - -$180 million
plus. Our record is clear and clean, and I am particularly
proud of that, and I think we should all be."
ES F. LENNON, JR.
Thank you, Fred. Reverend Williams, as acting official
for the Commissioners, also has something.
VEREND WILLIE V. WILLIAMS:
Joshingly when the Reverend said to stand when he starts,
Mr. Helmen asked the Reverend if he was going to baptize
him and whether he believed in part or full immersion, the
Reverend, with a chuckle, replied, naturally full immersion.
On behalf of the entire staff and Commission, we hate to see
you go because we enjoyed working with you and enjoyed your
fellowship and your friendship, and we have a little token
of love to present to you, and this is from the depths of
our hearts, and you may now stand and receive this gift.
On behalf of the entire staff, we would like to present
this gift to you. I do not know what is in it, but you
will find out':
- 3 -
