7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont' <br />c. River Bend Plaza Authority Update: Mr. Louis N. <br />Wilcox, River Bend Plaza Director, distributed detailed sche- <br />dules f the different activities he has scheduled and stated <br />many t ings have happened since their last meeting. The Plaza <br />plan is to have the completion of the supergraphic painting <br />of the River Bend Plaza, from Jefferson to Colfax, completed <br />by May 26th. He is working closely with Dr. Fern, University <br />of Notre Dame, and Dr. Davidson of I.U.S.B., responsible for <br />the gr I phics area. We will have a contest involving artists <br />in the area and letters are to be mailed out today. <br />Mr. Wilcox said he was very pleased with the public response <br />when we gave the people a chance to participate. Some 108 <br />children participated and an award will be presented this <br />aftern on in the River Bend Plaza Office for the painting <br />of the barricades. <br />A few bf the items have been affirmed in the scheduling: <br />June 8 - 9: The entire length of the Plaza will be <br />the scene of an Indian Pow -Wow with war <br />dances. The Board of Public Works has <br />issued a permit for the parade. <br />June 27: Wally Byam Day on the Plaza. Will be at <br />Notre Dame beginning on June 25 through <br />July 3, trailers with approximately <br />12,000 people in town. A square dance <br />is scheduledfor Thursday, June 27th. <br />Mr. Wilcox said the above people have been signed and he wanted <br />to reiterate that most of these attractions are free to the <br />community: 40 barber shop singers; three dance groups, and <br />also, ae need to recruit more volunteers to paint the fire <br />hydrants that presently are not yet painted. We are hoping <br />to have all these done by summer. <br />RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />AUTHORITY UPDATE <br />Hopefully we will be able to recreate Birds 0 1.wagons-andihave <br />Olive plows on display, hay rides for children, displays in vacant <br />store indows, etc. <br />Mr. Wilcox said he was amazed at the enthusiasm and the amount of <br />volunteers that have been offered in the short tenure he has been <br />in the River Bend Plaza Authority Office. He also extended an <br />invitation to attend the Conference in Louisville, extended from <br />the Director of the Louisville Central area, on April 29, 30 and <br />May 1, 1974. <br />2) N.D.P.
