7. <br />PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd) <br />3) Civic Center Status: Mr. Lennon advised-.we are <br />involved in the Civic Center only because it is <br />in the Downtown Project. The Civic Center model <br />has been displayed and there appears to be wide- <br />spread support for it. <br />We are waiting for an estimate on the demolition <br />of the generator plant on the island. The demoli- <br />tion will be through the Civic Center Authority. <br />b. City Council Caucus Update: Mr. Lennon said that the <br />Lawson Associates had prepared a proposal which the <br />Commission has received on the River Bank Study - -a <br />master plan that the community can shoot for. The <br />emergency housing plan has already been established, <br />to be under the Redevelopment Department areas under <br />Kent Wilcox in the Housing Authority. <br />The meeting was held January 10, 1974, at 7:00 p.m., <br />and the Agenda covered City Options, St. Joseph River <br />Corridor Report, City Housing Strategy which included: <br />Emergency Housing, Bulk Sales., Housing Allowance Pro- <br />gram update, Housing Court Status, Homesteading Status, <br />and the Southeast Side Status; also Community Forums <br />to be held Wednesday evenings from March 6, 13, 20 and <br />27, April 3 and 10, 1974, respectively with Councilmanic <br />Districts 1 through 6; along with an update on the Down- <br />town Project. <br />CITY COUNCIL CAUCUS <br />UPDATE <br />Wisconsin Housin Conference Report: Mr. Lennon ad WISCONSIN HOUSING <br />v�sed Bi11 Ellison had attended this Conference, along CONFERENCE REPORT <br />with two staff members, John Davis and Keith Crighton, <br />which had been previously authorized by the Commission. <br />This was at the Existing Housing Conference at the <br />University of Wisconsin, on January 7 through 9th, <br />which provided further analysis and explanation of <br />problems confronted in the inspection of existing <br />dwellings. The following are being considered and <br />are being investigated for possible incorporation <br />into our present housing programs: <br />1) Lead -based paint detection. <br />2) Vector control, i.e., detection & prevention. <br />3) Proper heating ventilation systems. <br />4) Proper plumbing cross - connections, i.e. back <br />siphonage prevention. <br />5) Carbon monoxide detection. <br />6) Fire prevention and alarm systems. <br />- 15 - <br />
