P OGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd) <br />d Sculptural Committee: Mr. Ed Bauer, Assistant Director, <br />Plann ng Division, gave a verbal report on the Sculpture Com- <br />mitte meeting last Wednesday evening. The competition will <br />start Friday for sculptors interested in submitting designs for <br />the P destrian Way, under construction in downtown South Bend. <br />The competition is open to all resident artists and sculptors <br />withir a 100 -mile radius of South Bend and is being advertised <br />in 25 newspapers. The designated sculptural areas will be <br />available after Friday, with a prospectus of the contest rules <br />and maps, for the sculptures. Interested participants will be <br />asked to submit scale models of their design proposals, with <br />outli a specifications concerning concept, materials and <br />cost if fabrication. <br />The Sculptural Committee will be selecting a panel of three <br />nationally known jurors in the sculptural field to select <br />the winners. Three winning designs will be selected by the <br />jurors within two weeks after the closing of the contest, <br />January 18, 1974 and $7,000 in commissions will be awarded <br />to eac of the artists for fabricating the sculptural units <br />select d. <br />Mr. Ba er discussed the possible areas for the pieces of <br />sculpt re, and also stating that the Mall is large enough <br />to hav2 25 structures mounted.
