7. PRQGRESS REPORTS (Conttd <br />1) Appoint Sculpture Committee by September 7, <br />1973, and Sculpture Committee to advertise for artists <br />an here in the United States. They are to submit desire to participate and <br />cr (dentials including accomplished works of similar <br />na ure to project. <br />2) Approve participants by October 1, 1973. Parti- <br />ci ants are to submit scale models of their design pro- <br />posals on or before December 3, 1973. <br />3) Award by Commission on January 2, 1974. Artists <br />arE to be awarded $250.00 each for second, third, fourth <br />an fifth best entries. The winning artist will receive <br />a ommission of $4,000.00, with a deadline of installa- <br />ti n of May 31, 1974. <br />Total fabrication, installation and 90 days maintenance of <br />sculpture, including costs to revise planned construction in- <br />side brick edging, shall not exceed $25,000.00. Costs for <br />design changes to the construction contract as planned shall <br />be covered as part of the $25,000 maximum allocation for the <br />project. <br />This was presented, included in original Mall contract, and <br />allocated as Alternate No. 1, total amount of $30,000.00 added <br />to Contract No. 5, to provide for the design, construction, and <br />installation of Sculptural -Play Units in the fountains and play <br />areas to be designated. This was budgeted as part of the major <br />contra t and awarded as such, and is not an additional amount. <br />The Consultants recommendation to the Commission is that the <br />sculpt re for the Mall not exceed $30,000.00. <br />c. Service Court Paving: The question raised on the paving <br />of the e -rvice Court between Jefferson and Colfax, with the sche- <br />dule set up Howell Construction Company has to put in the 24" <br />sewer between Washington and Colfax. They will begin this as <br />soon as the steel arrives for the JMS building annex. We hope <br />to hav it late today or Monday. <br />d. Civic Center: A brief discussion was held on the Civic <br />Center architects visit and the use of the building on the <br />southern end of the eleven acres. <br />8.
