PROGRESS REPORTS <br />Acquisition Workload, R-66: Mr. Harrison Miller, <br />Assi tant Director, prepared a report on.the.remaining <br />acqu sition parcels in:the.Central Downtown Urban Renewal <br />Proj ct. <br />The emaining parcels are: 2 -3, 2 -4, 2 -5, 4 -14, 4 -15, <br />8 -4, 9 -13, 9 -15, 12 -14, 12 -15, 12 -16, 13 -4, 17 -1, 20 -2, <br />22 -2 , 22 -2B, 22 -3A, 22 -4A and 22 -5A. <br />The status of each parcel is noted in the written report. <br />Business Relocation R -66: Mr. John A. Downtown Rehabilitation, R -66: Mr. Edwin R. Bauer, <br />Rehabilitation Architect, submitted his progress report <br />on the Downtown Renewal area for the month of January: <br />Urban Renewal plan gained a large degree of momentum during <br />year just ended toward restructuring the downtown business <br />district. Two major building complexes were started; i.e. <br />the U.S. Postal Facility and the 150 -room Royal Inns motel. <br />Each is scheduled for completion and occupancy by mid - summer, <br />1973. Two construction also included three one -story retail <br />buildings to serve seven tenant interests. Completed build- <br />ings in this group were the Family Book Store and the News <br />and Book Center, and due to be completed in mid February is <br />the Wayne/Michigan building (four retail businesses). <br />A continuing rehabilitation program started two years ago <br />involving two 8 -story office buildings. The new Sherland <br />Building is renovating complete floors to meet tenant needs. <br />J.M.S. Building is renovating individual tenant spaces on <br />a per floor basis as leases are renewed. In addition to <br />this renovation program, the J.M.S. Building has announced <br />their intentions to add approximately 22,000 sq. ft., <br />stores-office annex building on Washington Street--con- <br />struction to begin in mid March, 1973. <br />ACQUISITION WORKLOAD, <br />R -66 <br />BUSINESS RELOCATION, <br />R -66 <br />DOWNTOWN REHABILITA- <br />TION, R -66 <br />Rehabilitation of existing buildings in downtown business <br />district that are not scheduled for demolition remains the <br />prima ,y concern of the urban renewal program. Five structures <br />were menovated to project standards to meet the needs of eight <br />reloc ted businesses. All of the buildings were vacant proper- <br />ties f two years standing before rehabilitation made them rent- <br />able. <br />- 14 - <br />
