4. COMMUNICATIONS (Cont'd
The qhair said:
" peaking for all the Commissioners, I have become
rouder of being a member each time one of these
atters is announced.
"And for a summation, none of this could have been
possible without urban renewal. We took a lot of
criticism and ridicule. Now things are developing
and people see the betterment. The people are be-
coming more and more enthusiastic every day.
am very proud to have been a part of it and I
now the rest of the Commission has too."
Mr. Taylor said the letter indicates a minimum size build-
ing of 200,000 square feet, and in comparison to the County -
City Building which is about 130,000 square feet, the pro-
posed development will be about half again as large as the
Coun y -City Building. As our signs indicate, we have had
21 Million Dollars taxable new development, along with 15
Million Dollars in non- taxable construction in the down-
town area since urban renewal started. We only acquired
13 Million Dollars worth of property in the renewal project
and his one proposal will almost put that amount back, if
not ut it back totally. The housing area and a few smaller
retail sites are all that remain for disposition in the
Down own Renewal Project.
Mr. arl King said: "This community owes you gentlemen a
real ) vote of thanks."
Mr. ade said the post office building would not have been
bull if we would not have had urban renewal.
Mr. Ochrager and his firm were commended for their fore -
sigh in land purchase. They had no knowledge this would
come about.
Motin was made by Mr. Wiggins the letter be received and
plac d on file, seconded by Mr. Wade and unanimously carried.
Because of the Press Release for the news media, a short re-
cess was requested at this point and said motion was made
by fir. Wiggins.
The
ext order of business being:
- 7 -
