VIEW BUSINESS (Cont'd <br />plans <br />and. specifications will be available in approxi- <br />mately <br />sixty (60),days and they hope to begin construc- <br />tion ils <br />soon as the plans are approved.- The Royal Inns <br />of America, <br />based in San Diego, California, has been in <br />existence <br />in the past mainly as a West Coast chain of <br />over 60 <br />hotel - motel inns. The South Bend.hotel -motel <br />would <br />be the second Royal Inn in Indiana. The only, <br />hotel <br />"motel that Royal Inn has in Indiana-is-currently <br />being <br />built in Terre Haute and is scheduled to be open <br />in ap <br />)roximately 60 days - -a high -rise structure, in- <br />cludi <br />g a restaurant and cocktail lounge. <br />The S <br />uth Bend structure will be 10 stories high, at <br />an approximate <br />cost of Four Million- Dollars, to in- <br />clude <br />a restaurant to the right- - called Jolly King -- <br />with <br />a sauna bath, swimming pool and meeting rooms. <br />- Presi <br />ent Helmen read Royal Inns of America, Inc. <br />lette <br />directed to the Commission, dated March 15, <br />1972. <br />Mayor <br />Jerry J. Miller ;stated that he was,pleased with <br />the bid <br />and wanted to thank those involved in bringing <br />Royal <br />Inns to South Bend, including the Chamber of <br />Commerce <br />and the Redevelopment Commission, and es- <br />pecially <br />Mr. Rosenthal, Chairman of the Board and <br />Presi <br />ent of the St. Joseph Bank and his staff. <br />. Demolition Contract No. 24: Authorization to <br />`DEMOLITION CONTRACT <br />adver <br />ise for Demolition Contract No. 24 was received <br />NO. 24 AW:ARDED`TO: <br />in -Co <br />mission Meeting of February 17, 1972, for the <br />JULIUS O'NEAL TRUCKING <br />demolition <br />of the Family Book Store, located at 124 <br />CO., R -66 <br />South <br />Michigan Street, and the advertisement appeared <br />in Tha <br />South Bend Tribune and Tri- County News on <br />February <br />25 and March 3, 1972. The owner will rebuild <br />on tha <br />site after demolition.
