Kagel, Executive Director, ad- ON DECEMBER 30, 1971 <br />vise several officers of the Downtown South Bend Council AUTHORIZED <br />are flanning to tour the Downtown Kalamazoo Mall on Decem- <br />ber 30, during evening hours. Plans call for presentations <br />by c'ty officials, resource executives and area business- <br />men. Return to South Bend will be early morning of December <br />31st <br />Mr, tagel said they are planning to drive and invitation <br />was xtended to Commission members and staff to attend. <br />Rev. Williams said he will attend the tour, and a limit <br />of two staff members was made by the Commission. <br />. Executive Director Submits Resignation Effective <br />January 1 1972: President Helmen read a letter of re- <br />signation he had received from Mr. B. Ashenfelter, ad- <br />dressed to the members of the Redevelopment Commission, <br />in which he expressed his appreciation of the time spent <br />working with a fine staff and under the direction of a <br />group of dedicated men. He stated it has been a pleasure <br />to witness the necessities of life being brought to.many, <br />as well as to participate in the preliminary steps re- <br />quired for a revitalized business district. <br />Mr. 4shenfelter expressed his wish for the City, "the <br />best of leadership to attain our common goal." The <br />resi nation is effective January 1, 1972. <br />Pres dent Helmen said Mr. Ashenfelter has served urban <br />rene al splendidly and that we have come a long way <br />duri g his tenure. We have to accept this resigna- <br />tion but we do so very reluctantly. <br />President Helmen requested Commissioner Wiggins.to pre- <br />pare a Resolution, which is to be spread on the minutes, <br />to b come a matter of record. <br />Pres- <br />on tr <br />Chai i <br />fel tE <br />Depat <br />Said <br />Chenr <br />dent Helmen said this places a tremendous burden <br />e Commission to find a successor at once.
