Downtown Rehabilitation Report, R -66: Mr. Edwin <br />Bauer, Downtown RehabilitatiFn Supervisor, in his written <br />.report advised progress continues in the downtown develop- <br />ment program, with the unveiling by the "New - Sherland <br />Associates" of the imposing facade and resurfacing of the <br />"She land Building ", and impressive eight -story revitaliza- <br />tion office building program. It marks the first major <br />prof ct since the downtown rehabilitation program „reached <br />the xecution.;- stage. The multi - million dollar project, not <br />yet complete, held a preliminary open house on Friday, Octo- <br />ber 9th, to welcome new major tenants and showcase tenant <br />spac s on completed floors. <br />With regard to code enforcement of sign ordinance and the <br />numb r of confl- icting signs, in existence along the Mall route <br />and its envirdns,-summarization of violations are: <br />1) <br />2) <br />Outdoor Advertising Billboards: 13 illuminated <br />signboards to be removed. <br />Painted Signs on Building Fronts: <br />tions on stare fronts. <br />24 sign viola- <br />DOWNTOWN REHABILI- <br />TATION REPORT, R -66 - <br />3) Post Signs on Buildings: 42 sign violations painted <br />on buildings. <br />4) Animated Signs: 9 animated or blinking sign viola- <br />tions. <br />5) Awning Signs: 18 obsolete painted awning signs. <br />6) Projecting Signs: 25 projecting signs in excess <br />of ordinance restrictions or conflicting with Mall <br />concepts, as presently planned. <br />7) Marquee or Changeable Letter Sign: 4 in operation <br />may be in violation of strict code enforcement. <br />Many of the above apparent violations will be removed as a <br />dire t result of rehabilitation programs and the projected <br />demolition of many of the building signs in question. <br />TherE are a total of 57 building surveys started.
