Ne <br />Post Office Design Unveiled: At this point, <br />POST OFFICE DESIGN <br />the Commission <br />meeting was halted to display the archi- <br />UNVEILED, R -66 <br />tect's drawings <br />for the new postal building. Making the <br />presentation <br />was Mr. Charles W. Cole, Jr., whose firm <br />designed the <br />post office, and Mr. William C. Moe, Co- <br />ordinating Architect <br />of Charles W. Cole and Son. <br />Mr. Cole said <br />their firm will deliver final plans for <br />review in 45 <br />days from today (September 22nd) to the Corps <br />of Engineers, <br />in Kansas City, and 90 days after that <br />the Government <br />should start taking bids for construction " <br />contracts, with <br />ground breaking on January 1, 1972. <br />The outside <br />will be.of precast panels-- smooth.and ro&gh <br />angular finish. <br />The roof will be a warm gray, which <br />will be if terne <br />metal. The building will be 250 feet <br />back from Michigan <br />Street. This area will be completely <br />landscaped, <br />including a fountain. <br />-9- <br />
