7. <br />SS REPRESENTATIVE: <br />Mr. Milton A. Katz, owner of Milt1s: Grill, at the North- MILT'S GRILL, <br />eastc rner of Colfax Avenue and Main Street, said he CENTRAL DOWNTOWN URBAI! <br />merely attended this Commission meeting to see what the RENEWAL PROJECT, R•-66 <br />procedure is and the human side of our transactions. Mr. - <br />Milton Katz's property is not being acquired by the Urban <br />Renewal Program, but he has been given an eviction notice <br />by the building owner, Dr. Sam Katz, who has an optometry <br />office at 206 North Michigan Street, in.a building which <br />will be razed. Dr. Katz will be moving to Milt's Grill <br />locati n about February 28, 1971. He stated Mr. Miller <br />and everyone in`the Department of Redevelopment has <br />helped with information and relocation prospects. How- <br />ever, e claims the rentals to relocate are- exorbttant <br />and there are not enough places to relocate all the busi- <br />nesses. <br />Mr. He men stated that the Commission and staff have a <br />moral responsibility and will see to it that the.b,us.i- <br />nesses are properly relocated. Mr. Miller has a t8 t of <br />temporary sites, but businesses may not want to avail <br />themselves of these. <br />Mr. Wi gins advised the Commission has discussed and is <br />a part of an over -all consideration t4at as land becomes <br />vacant with demolition, we may.have some sort of an <br />interin structure or housing to relocate some of the down- <br />town business firms. <br />Mr. As enfelter stated demolitton is being phased and is <br />not at time, thus retaining relocation possibili:ttes, <br />8. Pedestrian Mall Consultants: Mr. Ashenfelter PEDESTRIAN MALI,, <br />advised of a meeting with the 'Pedestrian Mall consultants CENTRAL.DOWNTORN URBAf' <br />last evening, Thursday, November l9, at 7:30 P.M.., Progress RENEWAL PROJECT, R,66 <br />i's bei g made. They are seeking our counsel on the way <br />they should go. No plans, as yet, are being made. <br />Mrs. Janet S. Allen referred to the alley beyond the new <br />garage on Main and Colfax and inquired if we are going <br />to take care of the alleys along with the mall It was in- <br />dicated - certain alleys would be a paht of the project while <br />others would not. <br />b.
