Consultant for Downtown Pedestrian Way: 'CONSULTANT SELECTED <br />The Comiission recommended the selection of a cone FOR DOWNTOWN PEDESTRIAN <br />sulting team for the designing of the Downtown Pedes- WAY MALL DESIGN, R,66 <br />trian Way along Michigan Street, in the Central Down - <br />town Urban Renewal Project, R- 66,'to.be: Simonds and <br />Simonds, Landscape Architects and Planners, from <br />Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Clyde E. Williams & Associates, <br />Inc., Planners and Landscape Architects, South Bend; <br />and assisting the joint venture will be the South Bend <br />Architectural firm of Mathews, Purecker & Associates. <br />The Redevelopment Commission expressed their appreci- <br />ation for the amount of interest shown in the local <br />project on the part of the design profession. Eight <br />joint ventures, involving some seventeen firms from <br />as far away as California and New York, submitted <br />proposals and were interviewed by the Commission. <br />The Commission indicated that this eras an especially <br />difficult selection to make, as the-eight teams in- <br />cluded the top urban design firms in the country. <br />The firms submitting proposals were: <br />1) Paul Finfer Associates /Pollak, Barsocchini & <br />Associates. <br />2) Halprin, Neidigh & Maurer. <br />3) Bi key Associates /Leo A. Daly. <br />4) Cr mlish- Sporleder Associates /Eckbo, Dean, <br />Austin & Williams. <br />-4- <br />
