7. PRO$RESS REPORTS (Cont'd <br />Mr. Hel en asked what is happening to the.railroad, <br />and if he problems have been worked out ;,on the <br />title and abstract by the Abstract. and Title Corpo- <br />ration? Mr. Hammerschmidt said the fina1.report <br />has not as yet been received. Mr. Wiggins asked <br />if any more progress has been made, as the last <br />time the indication was that some progress has.'been <br />made. fir. Hammerschmidt said he will check into <br />this. he railroad has consented to condemnation. <br />Mr. Hel en asked if any mention of price has been <br />made? fir.. Hammerschmidt said the.,,price has not been <br />mentioned and we do not know.what they want yet. <br />Some may be by assignment and some maybe by fee. <br />Mr. Hel en said this is a. very_i:ntegral_part of "the . <br />develop ent of St. Joseph Street, as well as the <br />post-office site. We do not want to delay develop- <br />ment of St. Joseph Street. <br />Mr. Hammerschmidt said he will have .a report at the <br />next Commission meeting. We contemplate removing <br />the railroad tracks and using the trestle as a foot <br />bridge. The railroad will terminate at east..side <br />of St. Louis Street. <br />The Commission asked when concurrence will be re- <br />ceived on the post office site? Mr. Ebel advised <br />we are moving along rather well. Two more concur- <br />rences were received this week and Mr. Weaver is <br />working with owners now to get the options. We <br />have fo r concurrences to go. <br />b. Downtown Relocation: Mr. Miller advised <br />our business relocation service now provides for <br />discuss on regarding the time that,the.,Department <br />proposes to be in a position toJ et demolition <br />contracts in various areas of the project. Demoli- <br />tion is expected to be completed as early as January <br />1, 1971 in some portions of the project area and <br />other demolition activities could be scheduled as <br />late as January 1, 1973. Depending on the location, <br />the staff can now talk about a time table with the <br />site occupants and a target date to firm their plans <br />for new business shelter. The occupants now know <br />where t ey stand. The reaction has been very favor- <br />able. <br />Mr. Ebe informed the Commission_a map has been <br />prepare indicating the best thinking at the moment <br />with re pect to the acquisition and clearance sche- <br />dule an explained the display, Mr. Helmen said we <br />propose to acquire all property by the end of Septem- <br />ber.
