6. RROGRESS REPORT (Cont'd) <br />i. Relocation Office: Rev. Williams asked <br />how his was coming along. Mr. Bellinger stated the <br />2622 W. Napier Street property is not economically <br />feasible to rehabilitate. Authorization has been <br />received from the last Commission meeting to refurbish <br />the roperty located at 2637 Newcome Street for the <br />site office, in the neighborhood of $800 to $1,000, <br />but it eventually will be cleared. The staff antici- <br />pates to move out of the present site office in ap- <br />proximately four weeks. The building can then be <br />demolished and the land can then be used by the Park <br />Department. Because of soil conditions, etc., the <br />Newc me Street property cannot be rehabilitated for <br />long-term investment. <br />• Industrial Expansion Project, R -56: The <br />staf has eight families to be relocated. This land <br />has teen acquired and bid opening for the sale of <br />this land will be on August 12, 1969, at 2:00 P.M., <br />E.D.T. President Wiggins asked if we acquired all <br />this land in the Industrial Expansion Project. Mr. <br />Bruc C. Hammerschmidt, Legal Counsel, stated all <br />the and is acquired, with the exception of one, and <br />that is in condemnation. <br />Mrs. Curtis asked if the staff has living quarters <br />for these eight families and if the families are <br />large or small. Mr. Bellinger stated the staff has <br />prospects for relocation; however, the problem is <br />in finding what the people want. There are no large <br />families. <br />Mrs. Curtis asked if any want public housing, and <br />Mr. Bellinger stated none of the families remaining <br />appear interested in public housing. Rev. Williams <br />asked the amount of rent charged in the Greater South <br />Bend Housing Corporation. Mr. Bellinger apprised, <br />on th2 rent supplement program, the cost depends on <br />the i dividual's income. He also stated there is a <br />meeti g Tuesday, with the Greater South Bend Housing <br />Corporation, at our site office, to discuss any <br />probl ms.
