5. NNW BUSINESS (Cont'd
Mr. Gr nt Lewis inquired about the alley in rear of
Chicagc Street that cannot be used because it has
been t rn up and has been in that condition for about
two mo the and when it would be paved. Mr. Bellinger
apprised the Commission that virtually all the alleys
are passable and that our engineers, Chas. W. Cole &
Son, i dicated that the contractor should begin paving
operations in the next two weeks.
b. 2622 West Napier Street: This building had
originally been selected for a site office, and when
no lon er required for this prupose, would be sold as
a four bedroom home. The original bids received for
the rehabilitation of this structure ranged from
$14,00 to $16,700, which was economically prohibitive.
The proposed work was re- advertised, in hopes of reducing
the cost, and included an alternate - -one for only struc-
tural reconditioning of the existing porches and the
other for the complete new porch enclosures. No bids
were received for the second advertising. It was sug-
gested to the Commissioners that this structure be
demolished and an alternative building selected. The
only other building available would not lend itself to
a long range usefulness and would cost in the neighbor-
hood of $800 to $1,000 to rehabilitate for office usage.
This move would be less costly than renting a facility.
Authorization was requested from the Commission to ex-
pend fund needed for limited refurbishing of the pro-
perty located at 2637 Newcome Street for the required
site office. Authority was also requested for the
acquisition and demolition of the building on 2622 W.
Napier Street. The Chair entertained a motion to that
effect and motion was so made by Mr. Chenney, seconded
by Mr. Wilhelm.
c. Sale of Land: Approval was requested to
advertise and accept bids for the sale of land, ap-
proximately 12.7 acres to be sold for light industrial
or commercial use, in the Industrial Expansion Project,
R -56. The advertising dates requested were: July 15
and July 22, with a bid opening date of August 12,
1969, it 2:00 P.M., E.D.T., in the Office of the De-
partme t of Redevelopment. This is relative to HUD
letter. dated July 3, 1969, mentioned prior, under
"COMMUPICATIONS." On motion by Mr. Chenney, seconded
by Mr. Helmen, authorization was granted to advertise
and accept bids as indicated above. Mr. Marchmont
Kovas asked if the offering is on the entire tract,
for Pu lic Offering No. 1, and Mr. Bellinger stated
it was.
-5-
2622 W.
