5. PVGRESS REPORTS a. Rev. Kirk stated_.his.report on relocation is approximately the same-as last .week and there.is nothing further to add. b. The question was raised on- possible . reloca - tion pr blems in the Downtown;area., Mr. Bellinger stated here should be no difficulty in relocation in the entral Downtown Urban Renewal Project. The questioi was asked if the staff, has a.b.reakdown on RELOCATION REPORT, LASALLE-PARK URBAN RENEWAL PROJECT, R -57.. RELOCATION, CENTRAL DOWNTOWN URBXN RENEWAL PROJECT, R -66 the rel cation and Rev. Kirk stated that the staff.. does hate the report and there are 38 families in volved ind 173 individuals, which includes the entire area. Mr. Helmen asked where the people are going to be relocated. The Greater.Sou.th.Bend Housing Authority has under construction 180 units for the elderly which will help substantially. Many individuals will seek private accommodations and many are transients, who usually make their own way. Mr. Bellinger stated' that nevertheless the staff does have the responsi- bility to see that all families.and individuals are adequately housed, and, in his judgment, it has been determined that relocation will be satisfactorily carried out and will not be a serious problem. How - ever, a y substantial relocation is difficult and occupies a major portion of our activity. Presi- dent Wiggins stated that in several programs in the past, w have had large low- income families. We do not hav this problem in the Downtown area. Rev. - Kirk st ted we only have two non -white families in this ar a. Mr. Bellinger stated displacement can be phas d over a two -three year period. _Proposed _. program in the Downtown area which may move in advance of renewal will reduce the relocation work- load, or example, the first two parking structures which hive been proposed might get under way this year. lev. Williams said that Mr.'Dickinson had advised there will be 86 units.ready for occupancy in Sept mber, at Chapin and Western. C.
