5. PVGRESS REPORTS <br />a. Rev. Kirk stated_.his.report on relocation <br />is approximately the same-as last .week and there.is <br />nothing further to add. <br />b. The question was raised on- possible . reloca - <br />tion pr blems in the Downtown;area., Mr. Bellinger <br />stated here should be no difficulty in relocation <br />in the entral Downtown Urban Renewal Project. The <br />questioi was asked if the staff, has a.b.reakdown on <br />RELOCATION REPORT, <br />LASALLE-PARK URBAN <br />RENEWAL PROJECT, <br />R -57.. <br />RELOCATION, CENTRAL <br />DOWNTOWN URBXN <br />RENEWAL PROJECT, <br />R -66 <br />the rel cation and Rev. Kirk stated that the staff.. <br />does hate the report and there are 38 families in <br />volved ind 173 individuals, which includes the entire <br />area. Mr. Helmen asked where the people are going to <br />be relocated. The Greater.Sou.th.Bend Housing Authority <br />has under construction 180 units for the elderly which <br />will help substantially. Many individuals will seek <br />private accommodations and many are transients, who <br />usually make their own way. Mr. Bellinger stated' <br />that nevertheless the staff does have the responsi- <br />bility to see that all families.and individuals are <br />adequately housed, and, in his judgment, it has been <br />determined that relocation will be satisfactorily <br />carried <br />out and will not be a serious problem. How - <br />ever, a <br />y substantial relocation is difficult and <br />occupies <br />a major portion of our activity. Presi- <br />dent Wiggins <br />stated that in several programs in the <br />past, w <br />have had large low- income families. We do <br />not hav <br />this problem in the Downtown area. Rev. - <br />Kirk st <br />ted we only have two non -white families in <br />this ar <br />a. Mr. Bellinger stated displacement can <br />be phas <br />d over a two -three year period. _Proposed <br />_. <br />program <br />in the Downtown area which may move in <br />advance <br />of renewal will reduce the relocation work- <br />load, <br />or example, the first two parking structures <br />which hive <br />been proposed might get under way this <br />year. <br />lev.
