A meeting was held with the <br />SION PROTECT, R -56 <br />project residents <br />and appropriate staff members, and it is grati- <br />fying to re <br />ort the residents' attitude is very receptive and <br />cooperative <br />to the project plans. Citizens <br />for Continuing Central High School. Two repre - <br />CITIZENS FOR <br />sentatives <br />f this committee approached the Commission on the <br />CONTINUING CENTRAL <br />possibility <br />of including Central School as a part of the Phase I <br />HIGH SCHOOL <br />of the Downtown <br />Project. The Commission responded by stating <br />that no sch <br />of facility has been included in the planning for the <br />first phase <br />of the Central Downtown Project, nor would it be <br />passible to <br />change the plans. It was also asked of the Commis- <br />sion if there <br />would be any future plans for developing an inner <br />city school <br />complex to go along with urban development. A lengthy <br />discussion <br />Dursued but it was pointed out that all future plans <br />would be male <br />in accordance with demonstrated needs and the suc- <br />cess of the <br />first phase of the Downtown Project. At present, <br />plans call <br />or the development of mostly high rise apartments and <br />would not a <br />d significantly to school enrollments. It was ex- <br />plained tha <br />this Commission does not initiate urban renewal pro- <br />jects. The <br />a decisions are made by appropriate city officials <br />and committ <br />es with supporting studies to indicate the need for <br />such a proj <br />ct. Mrs. Curtis spoke on the new concept of total <br />planning fo <br />a city wherein appropriate city officials plan to- <br />gether and <br />incorporate all the needs of the city into the program. <br />Mr. Belling <br />r indicated that this is what the Area Plan Commission <br />is accompli <br />hing in completing the city and area wide Comprehen- <br />sive Plan. <br />5_ <br />
