b. Work ble Program Submission. The staff assisted the Mayor's <br />Advisory Co �ttee in preparing tfie Workable Program, and upon <br />receiving Common Council approval by resolution on June 24, 1968, <br />it was forwa ded to the Chicago HUD office. Twu supplements to the <br />Workable Pro ram will be forwarded at a later date, and are (1) the <br />Neighborhood Analysis which is being prepared by the Area Plan <br />Commission, and (2) the Housing Ordinance which is presently being <br />reviewed by he Common .Council. It will be necessary that the <br />Basic Code for Housing be adopted before the Workable Program can <br />be approved for the City of South Bend by the HUD Chicago office. <br />c. HUD hica o Representative. Mr. Becker, representative <br />from the IUD office in Chicago wi 1 visit South Bend next week, <br />and the staff is pursuing a meeting with Building Department <br />officials on the feasibility of construction of low cost housing <br />in the LaSalle Park Project, R -57. Mr. West is compiling ideas <br />from Chicago's housing program to the meeting. <br />d. Cha 'n Street Project R -29. Site improvement work is <br />progressing 5t11s actorily.ie pedestrian overpass is beginning <br />to take shape and the pavement work has been completed up to the <br />intersection at Western Avenue. -( <br />e. PossI Engineers for Industrial Ex ansion Project, R -56 <br />and Central n Project, R -6 a staff as requested from <br />two local en ing firms, Chas. W. Cole & Son and Clyde E. Wil- <br />liams & Asso , their qualifications as related to the two <br />subject urba al projects. Possibly by the next Commission <br />meeting a se n can be made of the one best qualified to <br />provide engi g services. The Post Office officials have <br />already aler staff that they will need legally defined <br />boundary des ns for the post office facility to be constructed <br />within the C Downtown Project, R -66. <br />f. Relo ation, LaSalle Park Project R -57. Mr. Scott reported <br />that there a e around 17 families yet to be relocated, and have <br />expressed a Jesire to remain in the project area. The Lease <br />Housing Prog am, functioning under the Public Housing Authority <br />jurisdiction, is being used to advantage. Of the original 75 homes <br />anticipated to be found for the Lease Housing Program, 45 have <br />been secured, many with the help of the Redevelopment Department's <br />Real Estate Dfficer. The encouragement the staff has received from <br />local realto s in this area is worth mentioning. <br />A discussion pursued on the Central Downtown Project, R -66, it <br />connection with the School Board's plans for doing away with the <br />Central High School. It was noted that the School Board is well <br />aware of the Redevelopment Department's plans for the Central <br />Downtown Project, R -66. It was emphasized that the Redevelopment <br />Commission at this time is not in a position to take on anything <br />further for this first phase of the Downtown Project.
