The Trustees devoted much of the meeting time to appoint Commissioners to fill the two <br />vacancies an the Redevelopment Commission. It is the feeling of the Trustees that <br />labor should be represented, so with this consideration the Trustees hereby appoint <br />John E. Chenney, 805 South 34th Street, as a Redevelopment Commissioner, upon the <br />recommendation and motion by Mr. Root, seconded by Mr. Sheets. Mr. Chenney is well <br />qualified o fill this position. <br />Mrs. Curtis and Mr. Wilhelm suggested the appointment of Reverend Billy W. Kirk to <br />fill the other vacancy on the Redevelopment Commission. Upon the motion of <br />Mrs. Curtis, seconded by Mr. Heckaman, the Trustees voted to appoint Reverend <br />Billy W. Kirk, pastor of the Laymen Chapel Methodist Church, to fill the vacant <br />position of the Redevelopment Commission. Reverend Kirk will be a fine representative <br />of the cler y, and knows first hand all the problems involved in the LaSalle Park <br />Project as a is a resident of this area. <br />The Trustee aim is to represent the entire community as well as possible with only . <br />a 5 member oard of Commission within its framework. It was expressed that in this <br />newly appoi ted Board of Commission, there is a financial advisor, a real estate <br />representat ve, a labor representative, an.industrial representative, and the clergy, <br />as well as aSalle Park representation. These appointments are all people who are <br />dedicated to the problems of the Redevelopment Department and have ability to do a <br />good job. his job requires a tremendous amount of time and effort on the part of <br />these members. it was emphasized that this is the second time in three years that <br />a Negro has been appointed to the Redevelopment Commission. <br />VI. (OTHER BUSINESS <br />The Trustees entered into a discussion of the tremendous work load the Redevelopment <br />Staff employees must carry and considered the possibility of recommending to the <br />Common Council that further staffing requirements are necessary. In this light, <br />Mrs. Curtis made the followingmotion, seconded by Mr. Sheets, that (1) an orientation <br />session be held with the new commissioners, (2).that the commissioners familiarize them - <br />selves with the Organization Chart for Year 1967, which delineates the setup and the <br />duties of t e Urban Redevelopment staff, and (3) that the commissioners determine <br />whether or of the staff is adequate for the successful execution,of present and <br />ongoing pro rams. • <br />It was unan mously agreed that Mrs. Curtis would write to the 5 persons who will <br />serve as Redevelopment Commissioner for the year 1967, to the 2 gentlemen who found <br />it necessar, to resign, and to the Chairman of the Commission to express staffing <br />recommendat on. <br />VII. ADJOURNMENT <br />Upon the motion by Mr. Root, seconded by Mr. Sheets, the Trustees voted\to adjourn <br />at 11:00 a. m. <br />De J. WV-5`161m, President sephi e: M.
