maximum amount of $1,500 and two approved for approximately <br />$1,400. There are about 8 other grants being processed. The <br />staff is also making progress in submitting loans for federal <br />approval which will carry interest at 39/6 per annum. The staff <br />has listed about 80 properties in which needed improvements <br />have been pointed out to the owner. Upon request by owners, <br />the staff suggests reliable contractors, or if money is needed, <br />the staff will give financial aid for those in the project area <br />who are el aible. <br />b. Re.ocation LaSalle, R -57. To date,.there are 3 families RELOCATION, <br />who have moved from the project area into public housing. There LASALLE, R -57 <br />are about 8 other families whose applications are being pro- <br />cessed by the Housing Authority. The staff is striving to get <br />more priva a housing for rental or sale. There are about 15 <br />families w o state they are not willing to accept the purchase <br />price offered for acquisition of their properties. Many of <br />these families to be relocated may be eligible to receive the <br />relocation adjustment payment of up to $500 per family or <br />elderly individual. Certain requirements are necessary for <br />eligibility, such -as (1) any individual over age 62, (2) any <br />family who demonstrates that 20•% of his income is not enough for <br />his family to meet rentals established on the Schedule of <br />Average Annual Gross Rentals for Standard Housing in South Bend, <br />Form H -614. It appears that 11 of the 15 families so far are <br />eligible for the relocation adjustment payment. <br />c. Meetings. The Mayor's Advisory Committee on Community MEETINGS <br />Improvement will probably meet in about 2 weeks. <br />Th Community Development Roundtable has programmed a <br />Citizens Congress For Tomorrow Conference, to be held at the <br />University of Notre Dame on November 16, 1966. This is to be <br />an all day meeting with luncheon, and cost is about $4.00 per <br />Person. The objective is to make the entire community aware of <br />the variou3 public and private programs being carried out. <br />Eleven eon urrent sessions are scheduled and Mr. Chong will <br />serve on the session entitled "Better Living Accommodations". <br />Tha South Bend Human Relations and Fair Practices Com -_ <br />mittee has scheduled a White House Conference on Housing for <br />November 2?, 1966, but the Redevelopment Department has received <br />no officia information or invitation as yet. <br />Department <br />Relocation <br />expected, <br />session. <br />very happy <br />property w: <br />LaSalle Park District Council met with the Redevelopment <br />on Thursday evening, September 29, 1966, in the <br />and Rehabilitation Office.
