Project. Also in connection with rehabilitation, an architect from <br />the Chicago office is making some sample sketches of what can be <br />done to make homes more beautiful at a minimum cost, which is <br />another service that the Department of Redevelopment will be able <br />to offer-to residents of the LaSalle Park Project. A Chicago <br />representative of D.H.U.D; visited.the Department of Redevelopment <br />last weeb to go over with the staff the Requirements for processing <br />the new Rehabilitation Grant and the 3% Rehabilitation Loan. The <br />staff is anxious to initiate requests for these'.new.aids to project <br />property owners. <br />Mrs. Curtis asked if the people in the LaSalle Park Project whose ACQUISITION <br />homes arE going to be acquired by the Redevelopment Department NOTIFICATION <br />have beer notified. At this time, this has been done only in .a R -57 <br />general uay, but after final plans are completed, a letter will be <br />sent to Each owner of the-homes to be acquired, stating that the <br />Redevelo ent Department is going to buy their home. <br />In the handling of the relocation problem in the LaSalle Park RELOCATION <br />Project, Mrs. Curtis suggested a community -wide meeting be held, LASALLE PARK <br />with representation from the Minority Group Housing Problems <br />Subcommittee, the Citizens Fair Housing Committee, the Board of <br />Realtors, the City Council and the Urban League. <br />Mr. Grant Lewis suggested that the "block captain" idea be initiated <br />in the La alle.Park Project area in order that the problems could SUGGESTIONS BY <br />be pinpointed more readily.. This good suggestion should come MR.GRANT LEWIS <br />under the direction of the LaSalle Park District Council,-and wil1:;R -57 <br />be referred to that organization.: Mr. Lewis stated that the.city's <br />efforts t drag the streets has done no good, and suggested that <br />gravel be brought in to at.least fill the holes. <br />Mr: Grimm'us asked if the vacant properties could be made available <br />to contractors for development at this time. Any contractor can CONTRACTORS <br />negotiate.with. the owners of the vacant lots.which are not to be R -57 <br />acquired by the Redevelopment Department. The staff will give any <br />help possible to the contractor wanting to locate the owner. <br />The question was asked, "How long does it take before the money is <br />paid, whet-property is acquired ?" It should take no longer than <br />several w eks. The resident might be entitled to two weeks free <br />rent after acquisition by the Redevelopment Department, and is <br />given a r asonable amount of time to move - like 30 to 45 days. <br />Also, it 's the responsibility of the Redevelopment Department to <br />find a pr per and acceptable home in which the family may relocate <br />a home to meet family income and in a convenient location. <br />The next Oeeting of the Commission will be held May 26, 1966, in <br />the offic of the Redevelopment Department, at 10:30 A.M. <br />9.
