The Chamber of Commerce and Rede- <br />velopment Department Staff initiated a meeting held <br />September 20, 1967, wherein the Small Business <br />Administration (SBA) outlined for the Redevelopment <br />Staff and businesses in the Downtown Renewal Project, <br />the assis ance they can provide to displaced busi- <br />nesses. pproximately 100 business establishments <br />were reprisented and shared in the discussion. <br />b. U.Salle Park Project, R-57. Activity in <br />connection with'the site improvements for LaSalle <br />Park will begin as soon as federal concurrence is <br />received permitting execution of contracts. Also, <br />the remaining demolition work involving vacant struc- <br />tures wil l. begin immediately upon execution of the <br />second dentolition contract. Completion time for the <br />second demolition contract is flexible, because all <br />families have not yet been relocated from the 125 <br />structures involved. Again, the Redevelopment staff <br />reiterates it was never intended to have *scant <br />buildings standing, but it was necessary upon direc- <br />tion from the Chicago federal office to enter into a <br />second contract. In the area of relocation, the <br />Chicago Relocation Specialist visited South Bend last <br />week and as satisfied as to progress being made in <br />this area. The Chicago representative was very pleased <br />to hear about the Common Council unanimously support- <br />ing the Lease Program.
