Re ocation,'LaSalle Park, R -57. Relocation is one of the
most diffi ult activities, and is a problem in any community. How-
ever, relo ation is workable, and progress is being made. To date,
90 familie and 13 individuals have been relocated in standard
housing. urreritly 37 families and 7 individuals remain on the
work load. Within the B. G. Smith Homes, the area in which the
Greater South Bend Housing Corporation plans to build housing units
for low income persons, only 4 families remain; one family is
scheduled to move into public housing, and the other three are in
process of purchasing homes. In conjunction with relocation acti-
vities, the demolition of vacant buildings began this morning in
accordance with the Notice to Proceed Order given to Dore Wrecking
Company. An application for Lease Housing is being prepared by the
Housing Au hority and should help in providing housing for displaced
families due to renewal.
b. Rehabilitation, LaSalle Park R -57. This program is a very
vital part of the LaSalle Park Project. The staff rehabilitation
team has made 144 inspections, 40 of these have been submitted to
contractors for bidding purposes, and to date 20 loans for rehabili-
tation wor have been processed. There is a large amount of docu-
mentation o be accomplished by the rehabilitation staff in order
to substan fate to the Chicago HUD office that loans will be repaid.
Many appli ants for loans involve low income families with unsatis-
factory cr dit reports. The Redevelopment staff works diligently
with these families in an attempt to-qualify them for loans. Many
property oimers have been able to do large portions of the work on
their homes themselves thus reducing the loan requirement. All
loans must be reviewed and approved by the FHA Indianapolis office,
IL41
RELOCATION,
LASALLE PARE:,
R -57
REHABILITATION,
LASALLE PARK,
R -57
