Federal concurrence has CHAPIN PROD., R-21 <br />for the pedestrian overpass contract, and construe- <br />underway shortly. By spring the street improvements <br />underway, and with the completion of these improve- <br />pin Project will be concluded. The overpass con- <br />uld not disrupt the traffic flow for any extended <br />,e. <br />b. Central Downtown Project, R-66. Telephone contacts with <br />the Chicago 1 J ,UD office indicate the project application review is <br />progressing exceptionally well and with dispatch. It appears that <br />the Cn <br />South Bend R-66 ApplicatiorAs being given maximum attention at <br />the Chicago level. In order to explain the recent newspaper <br />article which stated early acquisition may be effected to purchase <br />the post office site, it was pointed out that this meant upon <br />receiving all necessary local approvals, local funds could be used <br />for acquisition purposes. These local funds could then be repaid <br />upon receipt of federal funds. It was suggested that it would be <br />C:) <br />well for the post office to do a little publicizing and inform <br />the public as to what the new building would entail. <br />c. LaSalle Park Project, R-57. The project is moving along, <br />satisfactorily. only minor complaints have been received because <br />of adverse weather conditions, and the contractors continue to <br />satisfy each complaint. Residents' attitudes have been very <br />gratifying. Mr. Bellinger encouraged anyone interested to take <br />gratifying. C) <br />a driving to of the project area. The LaSalle Park District <br />Council had recently met to reorganize and in the course of the <br />evening's events had entered into a discussion and misunderstand- <br />ing of the LaSalle Park Rehabilitation Program. Subsequently, <br />Mr. Bellinger and the rehab. staff was invited to meet with this <br />group to answer questions and explain the rehabilitation process. <br />'Chese kinds c)f meetin-s are beneficial. In addition, the staff <br />has held wee<ly meetings with small groups of people, consisting <br />of about 10 property owners who will be required to rehab.their <br />properties.
