It was moved by Mr. Helmen, on Mr. Chong's recommendation, <br />supported by Mr. Kompar, and approved by the Commission that we <br />.engage two new staff members; (;1) Jim Nieb, Rehabilitation Officer, <br />starting July 1, 1965 for $7,200 a year, and (2) David Meyers, <br />Planner, starting July 16, 1965 for $5,400 a year. It was <br />explained by the Executive Director that the two newly employed <br />will not necessarily confine their activities to rehabilitation <br />and planning work. <br />c. Our Redevelopment Department being nearly out of stationery <br />has received three bids for new stationery. (1) Commercial <br />Printing quoted by phone: $31.45 per 1,-000 sheets, (2) Schillings: <br />$27.00 per 1,000 sheets, delivery 10 days, (3) Ideal Press; $28.50 <br />per 1,000 sheets, delivery I week. Mr. Koczan motioned, supported <br />by Mr. Helmen and approved by the Commission that we purchase <br />stationery from Ideal Press on the basis that their delivery was <br />in one-half the time of Schillings and only $1.50 higher in price. <br />8. PROGRESIS REPORTS <br />.Chapin Street Project, R-29. Demolition crew has resumed <br />work today. The M. R. Falcon Club is being purchased. Only <br />Rosenbaum property remains to be acquired. <br />LaSalle Park Project, R-57. The Redevelopment Department <br />has asked for a meeting to secure the feelings of the Council <br />members on some public or 222(d)3 housing in the LaSalle project. <br />Downtow,i Project, R-39. In the interest of our South Bend <br />Downtown Pmject, a group of four, Mr. Jim Nieb, Mr.,John Kagel, <br />Mrs. Kathry,,i Blough, and Mr. Chong took a trip to Grand Rapids, <br />Michigan in order to review their successful $50 million dollar <br />40 acres - aroject, located about six blocks out of the heart <br />of the city. They are proposing 17,000 municipally owned parking <br />spaces.
