r',- <br />Personnel and Finance Standing Committee <br />..,~ 2008 South Bend Common Council <br />The February 25, 2008 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee of the South <br />Bend Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member <br />Thomas LaFountain at 3:30 p.m. the Council's Informal Meeting Room. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members LaFountain, Varner, White, Kirsits, <br />Rouse, Henry Davis, Jr., Puzzello and Oliver Davis; City Clerk John Voorde, Martha <br />Lewis, Rita Kopola, Charles Clark, Jamie Loo of the Soufh Bend Tribune, unidentified <br />members of the public and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br />Council Member LaFountain noted that the Committee Members include Dr. Varner, <br />who serves as Vice-Chairperson, Council Members Oliver Davis, AI "Buddy" Kirsits and <br />himself, who serves as Chairperson. <br />Bill No. 08-14 Request to Approve Issuance of Scrap Metal/Junk <br />Dealers/Recycling Operation Licenses: <br />Council Member LaFoutain called for a formal presentation on Bill No. 08-14 which is a <br />request of the City Administration to approve the issue of scrap metal/junk <br />dealers/recycling operation licenses pursuant to Section 4-51 of the Soufh Bend <br />Municipal Code. <br />Charles E. Clark, City License Auditor, made the formal presentation. He stated that <br />the resolution would approve five (5) licenses, four (4) for 2008 and one (1) for 2007. <br />Three (3) of the requests are renewals. He noted that the requests have been reviewed <br />by the Police and Fire Departments, Waterworks, Code and the Building Department <br />and all results are favorable. <br />In response to a question from Council Member Kirsits, Mr. Clark stated that all of the <br />operations are in compliance with the video-tapping requirements of the City Code. <br />There was no one from the public to speak in favor or in opposition to the Bill. <br />Council Member Kirsits made a motion, seconded by Council Member Oliver Davis that <br />Bill No. 08-14 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br />
