(Fed.
1410,
The
(2)
Cont' d)
05 Henry Sucher - Travel to Cincinnati & Evansville $ 94.30
Virgil A. Place - Travel to Cincinnati 90.85
TOTAL BILLS $962.44
and then approved the above bills, with three of the Commissioners
.zing each claim, in accordance with city policy.
ELECTION OF FIRST RESIDENTIAL RENEWAL PROJECT
It had been agreed at the October meeting that an application for a residential
renewal project should be submitted, so that if the Downtown project is not ac-
cepted, we would not lose time in starting on our second project.
The two areas which have been under discussion are:
The LaSalle Park Area which is bounded by the first alley west of Chicago
Street on the West; Western Avenue on the South; first alley east of Meade
Street on the East; and Linden Avenue on the North. This is a 190 acre area
with 100 standard structures, 100 substandard structures and. 140 vacant lots.
The Hering House Urban League has started a neighborhood organization
which has effected some improvements in this area already.
The City has recently purchased a park site in this area. The City would get
credit for the park improvements through this project.
Net project cost would be a little over $1 million. The city's share would be
about $350,000.
The cother proposed area is the Linden School Area. This is bounded by Olive
and Johnson Street on the West; the New York Central Railroad and Washing-
ton S reet on the South; Walnut Street and the city Cemetery on the East; and
Linc lnway West, Fassnacht Avenue, and Kenwood Avenue on the North.
The school city definitely wants action in this area. They want to build an ad-
dition to the school there but cannot do so until they have 10 -12 acres of land.
They plan to spend about $800, 000 for this building. 40 -60% of this would go
to the city's credit toward its 1/3 share of the renewal costs.
This s also a good and logical site for a second low -rent public housing pro-
ject. Linden Avenue is contemplated for improvement.
