LINDEN AVENUE AREA (cont=d)
In the near future a new Linden School is to be built at a total cost of
$1, 2,50, 000.00. It has a contemplated completion date of 1960. The
site of this school is included in the Linden Avenue area.. The School
City can only obtain a 2 1 [2 acre site. However, we could easily make
mo a acreage available if our program materializes'.. As a result the
Sch of City would benefit, in the fact that they would not be as limited
for pace
The boundaries of this area and its ultimate design at present cannot
be as clearly defined as those of the Sample Street area. This would
involve a much more extensive surveying job, etc., as the area is
more homogeneous than the smaller, compact, Sample Street area.
Mr. Adair thought that this project has an advantage over the Sample
Street area in the respect that the public would.recognize a complete
transformation taking place. It would be a larger project, and in
turn, would be more outstanding'. Also, even if at first, we did only a
min r share of the work in this area we would still get credit towards
the chool, and then as time goes by, we could expand on that area.
Mr. Williams then asked how much time would be involved in plan-
ning for the industrial area, and if there was a possibility we could go into
the 3chool area after the Sample Street project. However, Mr. Sucher's
statement was that he feared it would be too late to benefit the school,
bec use the planning on the industrial area would take approximately
a year, and obtaining local and federal approvals another 4 - 6 months.
It w s stated that there would be no opposition in the Linden area from
the esidents of the neighborhood if they were approached properly
and 'nformed of the benefits that would be obtained.
As concluding thought it was stated that we would benefit financially
by aving the whole area declared a Renewal Area before the school
con truction got started.
No- efinite decision was made as to the choice of the project area.
Instead, Mr. Sucher was asked to have available before the next
monthly meeting additional figures and additional maps, showing:
(a) Conditions as they are now
(b) Conditions as they would be after Redevelopment
