South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(8) continued...
somewhere.
Mr. King referred back to the October 19
minutes regarding the Commission's contract
with HOK. HOK is to start within the next
couple of weeks. The process of creating the
plan will take about six to eight weeks. Once
that gets going, we'll be able to put some
flesh on the bones of the vision Mr. Blake is
talking about. It's awkward when you are
here talking about putting people's properties
on an acquisition list when you don't have
the plan that you are trying to make move
forward by doing that. But, in order to get all
the timing to work out, we had to do it this
way. Ideally, we would have said we have a
plan, and now we need these properties; but
the planners need to have some assurance
that what they design will be doable.
Mr. King thanked everyone who came out to
participate. He asked that they keep in mind
Mr. Blake's admonishment. We're in the
process of building a vision for this area.
We've hired some topnotch consultants to do
it. And all the people who are interested
should participate in that process as we go
forward, and we'll end up with something
that everyone can be proud of and happy that
we had it done.
Mr. Peczkowski commented that there is a
fine line between vision and wishful
thinking. While he has been told in the past
that his hindsight is 20/20, we have to learn
from history. The history of the City of
60
