South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(7) continued...
to buy them?
MR. GIBNEY: Well, it's been on the market
for ten years.
MR. MEDHURST: You want to have the
city buy them?
MR. GIBNEY: Hey, I moved your house.
I've got a long history with you on that
property.
MR. MEDHURST: I know, and it was a
crappy job done on it, too. You had Builders
Witt do the furnace. I wouldn't let them
build a fire at Boy Scout Camp.
MR. GIBNEY: Thank you, sir.
MR. MEDHURST: The point is, if the city
wants to buy them, let them write me a check
for $750,000 and you can do what the hell
you want with them. This whole deal is
some way to rip off the public. To raise the
damn taxes. In the twenty years we've been
there, the taxes have quadrupled.
Quadrupled. The only reason they only
quadrupled is because I'm a real estate
appraiser. And I went to the tax appeal board
recently and tore them anew. When I got
done with them, they came from 100%
increase to 12% because I was right. I nailed
them to the wall, and if you don't believe it,
just get them over here and put them on the
fire. Tax rates are abysmal in this county.
And you people sit here, all these politicians
38
