South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(7) continued...
statement from Mr. Schalliol that on
October 19 of this year the taxing units of St.
Joseph County were sent notice of the public
hearing. (7) The mail was checked prior to
the meeting and there were 0 written
remonstrances received.
Mr. Schalliol noted that Resolution No. 2385
expands the South Bend Central
Development Area to include the entire
Coveleski Neighborhood Planning Area and
to add twenty-one properties to the
acquisition list. The boundary change will
fill in the gap between the existing South
Bend Central Development Area boundary
and the West Washington-Chapin
Development. This gap has existed for a
number of years and was bridged when the
SBCDA boundary was expanded to include
the Studebaker Museum site. By adding this
area into the SBCDA, TIF funds can be used
for planning purposes, acquisition and
demolition of property, and infrastructure
improvement and upgrade.
Mr. Schalliol noted that the twenty-one
parcels to be added to the acquisition list are
related to different efforts in the planning
area. The majority of the parcels are related
to the Gates Chevy World site, generally
located at the southwest and southeast
corners of Lafayette and Western. These
parcels are key elements to the Coveleski
Neighborhood planning area. The Cleo
Washington parcels consist of a single family
house located on the southeast corner of
32
